Outreach Ministries

Community Outreach

Moorings Presbyterian Church takes outreach to heart. Central to that concept is our Baker Family Life Center and the Moorings Presbyterian Church Disaster Preparedness and Response Committee.

When the Baker Family Life Center was constructed in 2000, it was built to hurricane specifications. Since we are located west of US 41, we are unable to provide shelter during the hurricane, because people in our area are under mandatory evacuation rules. However, we have signed agreements with Collier County Red Cross and Collier County Emergency Management to be a site for response and recovery after a disaster. In addition to the hardened building, there is a generator that will make the building fully functional, as well as provide power for our commercial kitchen.

The Disaster Preparedness Committee has been preparing our facilities and members for the reality of living in an area prone to hurricanes. A group of people in our congregation have been trained CERT Community Emergency Response Teams. (More information may be found at http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert).

THANKSGIVING DAY DINNERS
Jim and Kathy Shannon, long time members of Moorings Presbyterian Church, spearhead the “Thanksgiving in the Park” dinners at the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. Now in its 25th year, this annual event serves over 4,000 Thanksgiving dinners to the deserving families of Immokalee. Fellow members of our church join the Shannons to give thanks for our blessings, raise support for the Guadalupe Center, and serve the many dinners.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Moorings Presbyterian Church has been actively involved for over 25 years.
