Richard Crofts became Minister of Music (organist/director) at Moorings in 1982.  A Florida native, his college studies were completed at Greensboro College and Boston University School of Theology where he earned the Master of Sacred Music degree.  He is an Associate of the American Guild of Organists and is a Certified Church Musician within the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM).

Dick conducts the Chancel Choir including an annual Masterwork Chorus with orchestra.  He also directs four handbell ensembles, two of which have made solo presentations in area, national, and international events in such places as New Mexico, Canada, Japan, England, South Korea, and Australia.  He assists the music associate (and wife, Martha Crofts) with children and youth choristers.  Dick organized and directs the annual concerts known as The Hyacinth Series with a history of more than twenty-five seasons.

Active in several professional organizations, Dick, along with Martha, co-chaired PAM's 2006 Westminster Conference on Worship and Music.  He is a former Area chairman of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers,  and served on the Worship and Theology Committee of the Peace River Presbytery. Locally, he has been active in community music festivals for children, adults, and handbells.

Kindermusik®
Our Time for children of ages 18 months through 3 years accompanied by a parent or caregiver is offered on Thursdays at 11 o’clock.  These 15 week classes run throughout the year.  Call Martha Crofts at 213-5244 for startup dates and cost.

Cherub Choir
For children ages 4 (by September 1) through 1st grade. Children meet on Wednesdays as apart of Wednesday Connection, September through May, Singing in church bimonthly and on Christmas Eve.

The Choralier Choir
For children in grades 2-5 meets on Wednesdays as apart of Wednesday Connection, September though May. They sing in Church seven times a year, present a special program at Christmas and a musical on Mother’s Day.

Youth Handbells
Middle/High School students are welcome on Sunday afternoons at 4:15 PM.

Youth Choir
Middle/High School Students Meet Sundays at 4:45 PM (September through May)

Chancel Choir
All are welcome to join the choral ensemble that most frequently leads the music potion of worship while also offering friendships, the joy of singing, and the art of sacred music. (Rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, October through April)

Moorings Ringers
Meets Sundays at 6:30 PM

Morning Bells
Meets Thursdays, November through April at 9:00 a.m. New ringers are invited!

 

2009-2010 HYACINTH Season Brochure

Conceived in 1983, the Hyacinth Series brings unique and inspiring programs of music to the Moorings Presbyterian Church and the Naples community.  The concerts signal the importance of music in the church program, and the church's open door to the community.

All concerts are open to the public without charge or reserved seating.  Offerings are received, as the concerts are not financed by the church's operating budget.

The Friends of the Hyacinth Series was established to denote donors contributing $100 or more annually.  The Angel Band denotes contributors of $1,000 or an entire concert.

This season, count on the Hyacinth Series for the best of organ, brass, handbells, song, piano, and choral singing!
