Outreach Ministries

Our Mission Work

Moorings Presbyterian Church designates approximately 12% of its overall budget to support missions in Southwest Florida and abroad.  It should also be noted that many members dedicate their time and talent to leadership within these same agencies. 

Among the agencies supported in Immokalee:

• Guadalupe Social Services provide migrant workers financial aid, immigrations services, a food pantry, and a school on wheels to assist homebound women learn English.

• Immokalee Friendship House provides shelter for the homeless.
• Marion Fether Medical Clinic
• Redlands Christian Migrant Association provides childcare, school-age programs, a charter school and child care homes. 
• For 24 years members of Moorings have organized Thanksgiving Day dinners for upwards of 4000 people in Immokalee.  Over a hundred volunteers from Moorings and other churches as well as scores of people and businesses who donate food make it happen.

Other local agencies include:

• Child Care of Southwest Florida
• Neighborhood Health Clinic provides health care to the working poor. 
• Salvation Army Child Care Center
• Harry Chapin Food Bank provides over 4 million pounds of food annually to 50,000 people monthly. 
  
• St. Matthew’s House whose mission is to provide housing for the homeless, food for the needy, and an opportunity to change lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined.  
• Habitat for Humanity:  for the last four years, a family of Moorings Presbyterian has issued a challenge, met each year by our church, to help build a Habitat house.
  
• Senior Friendship Center provides medical and dental services to uninsured persons over 50 years of age. 
  
• Project Help operates a 24 hour telephone crisis and referral hotline and offers counseling services for rape victims and crime, suicide, and sudden death survivors.
  
• Grace Place for Children is a faith-based neighborhood center offering assistance to families in need in Golden Gate through teaching essential school and life skills. 

Among organizations serving international communities: 

• Jim Smith School, named for the late Moorings member, in Balcones de Palin, Guatemala.  Moorings  provides scholarships to 100 students and, during the last 7 years, financial aid to the community for construction of a church,  a water tower, a bridge, paved roads, a computer lab, and operation of a medical clinic including medical equipment and pharmaceutical products. 
• ECHO is dedicated to assist those Christian Agricultural Missionaries sharing the gospel throughout the developing world by providing innovative ideas, information, agricultural training and seeds critical to growing food under harsh conditions.
  
• Miracles in Action supports and helps manage sustainable development projects including building ten schools, funding potable water systems, installing stoves, and distributing wheelchairs and prosthetics.
• Medical Benevolence Foundation: Moorings Presbyterian funds help build a nursing school in Haiti. 
• Bibles for the World and funds to help build a new Sielmat hospital in India.

• Presbyterian Hunger Relief Program.   

Among PCUSA organizations, Moorings supports One Great Hour of Sharing, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Christmas Joy Offering.
