Outreach Ministries Our Mission Work | Counseling | Community Outreach Moorings Presbyterian Church designates approximately 12% of its overall budget to support missions in Southwest Florida and abroad. It should also be noted that many members dedicate their time and talent to leadership within these same agencies. Among the agencies supported in Immokalee:
Other local agencies include:
Among organizations serving international communities:
Among PCUSA organizations, Moorings supports One Great Hour of Sharing, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Christmas Joy Offering. Persons in need of short term counseling can seek support through one of the clergy. Other counseling needs can be addressed with Ms. Lea Leonard, LCSW, CTS (Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma Specialist). Lea currently occupies the counseling office upstairs in Moss Hall, and is available for individual, couple, and family counseling. In exchange for office space, Lea has the flexibility to offer her services at a reduced rate to Moorings members and friends. Her counseling ministry is entitled "Wings of Change" and the list of her areas of expertise is long and impressive. She has proven experience in dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, bi-polar disorder, trauma, behavioral challenges (anger management, ADHD), Asperger's Syndrome, self injury, and life changes. Please call her at (239)287-0810, email her at lealeonard@hotmail.com, or visit her website at www.wings-of-change.com. Moorings Presbyterian Church takes outreach to heart. Central to that concept is our Baker Family Life Center and the Moorings Presbyterian Church Disaster Preparedness and Response Committee. When the Baker Family Life Center was constructed in 2000, it was built to hurricane specifications. Since we are located west of US 41, we are unable to provide shelter during the hurricane, because people in our area are under mandatory evacuation rules. However, we have signed agreements with Collier County Red Cross and Collier County Emergency Management to be a site for response and recovery after a disaster. In addition to the hardened building, there is a generator that will make the building fully functional, as well as provide power for our commercial kitchen. The Disaster Preparedness Committee has been preparing our facilities and members for the reality of living in an area prone to hurricanes. A group of people in our congregation have been trained CERT Community Emergency Response Teams. (More information may be found at http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert).
